Conferencing
Disect is unique in that it integrates a high definition conferencing system with a radiology viewer. The rich viewing experience that Disect delivers can therefore be shared in pristine quality with colleagues and co-workers anywhere in the world.
The conferencing experience
Disect seamlessly enables users at different locations to share and interact with the same radiology images as if they are sitting at the same PC. A simple, intuitive user interface encourages a natural conversational interaction between the parties, and they can annotate the shared images to draw attention to specific features. The image quality at all participating PCs is pristine – there is no reduction in quality as often experienced with conventional video conferencing or web conferencing systems. Data files can be exchanged between the viewing stations in real time, or they can be distributed in advance of the conference session. These files undergo lossless compression to minimise transit time, and during the conference session only keyboard and mouse commands are sent over the network, which greatly reduces bandwidth and latency requirements. Conferencing sessions can therefore be held over internal high speed networks, broadband internet, low speed dial-up or mobile connections.
The benefits
The conferencing capability of Disect saves time, increases efficiency, reduces costs and reduces carbon emissions. For those users who belong to an organisation which is spread across a campus, city, country or the globe, Disect conferencing allows them to share and review their images with remote colleagues from their desktop. In the Health Services for example, patients can be assessed by local clinicians who can readily call upon expert practitioners at remote locations to assist in the diagnosis, helping to ensure fast and appropriate treatment. Similarly, workers in the aerospace and automotive industries are often dispersed between different geographic sites depending on the nature of their work (R&D, volume manufacture or sales in a particular territory) and perhaps the proximity of vital component suppliers. These workers, like those in health and indeed any of the sectors now commonly using scanning, can use Disect to readily share their scan images in an interactive manner that removes the physical distance and places everyone in the same virtual space. |
